TRIPLE: AI, SIMULATION AND STANDARDIZATION
THE TRIPLE PACK: HOW AI, SIMULATION,
AND STANDARDIZATION ARE OPENING
UP MARKETS TOGETHER
Artificial intelligence and simulation are driving a new
era: They enable highly precise, efficient development
and decision-making processes—setting new standards
for innovation, quality, and competitiveness. Standards
ensure that opportunities are turned into tangible
market advantages. Together, they pave the way for
efficiency, quality, and sustainable success.
STANDARDIZATION AS A KEY PARTNER
FOR AI AND SIMULATION
Standardization is the invisible but indispensable team player
in the background. It harmonizes data formats, protocols,
and interfaces, thereby creating the conditions for AI systems
and simulation solutions to work together efficiently. Only
through uniform standards can all components and market
participants speak the same language. This forms the basis
for an open, agile market in which providers and users can
act flexibly.
Simulation has been established for slightly longer than AI –
its structured processes are now benefiting significantly from
increasing intelligence and connectivity.
As a mature and established technology, simulation benefits
not only from the agility created by current AI-based methods, but also from their potential to bring further intelligence
and connectivity to the table.
OPEN MARKETS AND COMPETITIVE
ADVANTAGES THROUGH STANDARDS
INCREASED EFFICIENCY AND INVESTMENT
PROTECTION FOR DATA OWNERS
Standardization offers clear business advantages, especially
in data-intensive applications such as simulation and AI:
Standard-compliant data can be used flexibly and
independently of tools over the long term. There is no need
for time-consuming conversion or recreation of data. Large,
standard-compliant data pools offer more application possibilities than individually formatted, small databases. This
saves companies time and money and accelerates their time
to market – while protecting their investments.
SYNERGIES FOR QUALITY AND GROWTH
Where standards exist, reference data, test tools, and
benchmarks emerge. New market entrants gain easier
access, while established companies can objectively prove
their quality. This strengthens trust, accelerates innovation,
and promotes the growth of a common marketplace for AI
and simulation. Standardization thus becomes a catalyst for
dynamism and reliability.
THE PERFECT TEAM FOR THE FUTURE
Current industry developments show that AI and simulation
are opening up new horizons. Standardization ensures that
these technologies can be used efficiently, safely, and
scalably. Together, they form a forward-looking team—a
strategic alliance that enables innovation, transforms
business models, and opens up new markets.

The more powerfully AI and simulation transform the market,
the more central standardization becomes as a ticket to a
growing, diverse ecosystem. Standards create a level playing
field: anyone who speaks the language or wants to learn it is
welcome, regardless of company size or manufacturer.
Customers gain more choice and quality through standardized interfaces, while providers tap into broader markets
without having to get bogged down in proprietary island
solutions.
ASAM standards are the
common language that enables
the exchange of data and ideas
in the automotive development
ecosystem – today and tomorrow.

Marius Dupuis, CEO ASAM e.V.
Marius Dupuis holds a diploma in Aerospace Engineering. After an initial engagement in engineering flight
Simulation, he became co-founder and general manager of VIRES Simulationstechnologie GmbH and grew
the company to a leading provider of environment
Simulation solutions for ADAS and autonomous driving
systems. Marius left VIRES in 2020 and has been working as an independent consultant ever since. During
that phase, he founded Sim|Cert and co-founded
GEONATIVES.
Marius is one of the initiators and original authors of
the Simulation data standards OpenDRIVE, OpenCRG
and OpenSCENARIO. He was responsible for transferring these standards to ASAM. Following these
standards and his persistent interest in dynamic
organizations, Marius joined ASAM in May 2022 as
Chief Executive Officer.
