HOW AI AND SIMULATION ARE SHAPING THE FUTURE
UNBEATABLE TOGETHER
HOW AI AND SIMULATION
ARE SHAPING THE FUTURE
A dialogue about synergies, potential, speed,
and industrial digital sovereignty.
THE FUTURE LIES IN COLLABORATION NOT IN EITHER/OR.
When two pioneers meet – one from the world of simulation,
the other from the realm of artificial intelligence – the result
is a conversation that is much more than a technical
exchange. It is a dialogue about potential, about the future of
intelligent systems – and about a partnership between two
technologies that could not be more different, yet together
achieve extraordinary things: simulation and AI.
Christoph Gümbel, a long-standing thought leader in virtual
vehicle development at Porsche, sums it up right at the start:
“Simulation is no longer just a tool; it is a cornerstone of
development – and ready to reach the next level.” This next
level begins where humans no longer provide the
intelligence alone, but where computers finally begin to
“understand” for themselves: through artificial intelligence.
AI MAKES SIMULATION THINK
Prof. Dr. Philipp Slusallek, Scientific Director at DFKI, adds:
"We don't just have to describe the world, we have to make
it understandable. This means that AI must not only
generate text or images—it must understand how the
world works." Simulation is key to this, because it contains
the collective knowledge of physics, engineering, and
reality. When combined with AI, this creates a system that
can learn, abstract, and improve itself.
This is about more than technology: it's about real
intelligence that understands causal relationships. It's
about AI that isn't just trained, but cooperates with physical
models. Slusallek calls this “neuroexplicit AI” – a new
generation of intelligent systems that combine neural
networks and mathematical models. Or as Gümbel puts it:
“We are creating a dream team – smart computers fed with
knowledge from the real and virtual worlds.”
